The Flaming Lips Make Me Happy

The Flaming Lips make me happy. Their earnestness and ambition, well-grounded sensibility and sheer nonsensibility, irreverence and humility, all combine to create music that resonates with a hopeful but confused human species. This has been the unifying theme of the band's work, from "She Don't Use Jelly" to "The W.A.N.D." Thus, it only makes sense that the Lips would be obsessed with the idea of Christmas, which incorporates the emotion of hope unfiltered by confusion.

I can't wait to see their film, Christmas on Mars, when it is released on DVD in October, packaged with a soundtrack.

What gave you the urge to listen to Christmas music at all at this time of year?

And why are your friends so inconsistent with commenting on your blog? So lame. (That means you, Jessie, Bryant, Dave, Eric, Joe, and others!)

I love that I was not specifically included in Allison's comment.

Christmas music is good ANY time of the year. Especially during lightening drills

Haha well, I was going to include you, Grace, but I decided to cut you some slack since you've been away and/or doing the whole college thing for the past month. But now that you've posted once, I expect to see you up here more in the future...

(I promise I'll email you back soon. :) )

Chris, can we watch Christmas on Mars together when it comes out? I think the first time I heard you mention this movie, we were in middle school.

Yeah, it was due for a Christmas 2003 release date at one point... so MOST definitely, Mr. Morrissey. Most definitely.
